Be sure to soak in the cheerful white and pink blooms on every corner of the city, then head to Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for a delightful array of events and activities to maximize every moment.

40,000 Cherry Trees

Did you know that Vancouver’s original 500 cherry trees were a gift from the mayors of Kobe and Yokohama in the 1930s as a thank you to the city for honouring Japanese Canadians who served in WWI? Since then, tens of thousands of cherry trees have been planted throughout the city, and for a limited time each year, their blossoms now grace the streets of entire neighbourhoods in canopies of pink blossoms. The trees symbolize the Shinto ideals of impermanence, hope and renewal.
