Summer Swing: A Tribute to the Golden Era of the Panorama Roof

Join us on Friday, June 20 for an unforgettable night of vintage glamour, exquisite cuisine, and timeless music at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s iconic venue, ‘The Roof’.

Summer Swing is more than just a celebration, it’s a heartfelt tribute to one of Vancouver’s most cherished musical legacies. For over two decades, the ‘Panorama Roof’ was the heartbeat of the city’s social and cultural life, where generations gathered to dine, dance, and be serenaded by the legendary Dal Richards and his Orchestra. From 1940 to 1965, Dal and his 11-piece band lit up the space with smooth swing, jazz classics, and showmanship that made him known as Vancouver’s ‘King of Swing’. His performances became the soundtrack of an era, and the Roof, the place to be seen.

Rekindle the magic of that golden age with an evening that blends the elegance of the past with the vibrant spirit of the present. Begin the night with a gourmet three-course dinner served in a refined long-table format – the perfect setting for mingling, conversation, and camaraderie. The menu pays homage to historic dishes once served at the hotel, reimagined by the talents of the hotel’s culinary team.

As the sun sets on the longest day of the year, the Roof comes alive with the sound of the Vancouver Jazz Orchestra, filling the room with the rich, vibrant energy of classic swing and big band jazz. Surrounded by vintage décor and the undeniable energy of the summer solstice, guests are invited to hit the dance floor and let the music transport them – just as it did for so many during the heyday of the Panorama Roof.
